A graveside service for David "Red" Henson will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
Pastor Steve Lord, Star Hospice chaplain, will offficiate.
Chapel of Hope Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
Henson, 84, died March 1, 2010, at Odessa Medical Center in Odessa, Texas. He was born August 9, 1925, in Decatur, Texas. He married Evlyn Joyce Frost in February, 1946, in Hereford, Texas. She died Sptember 12, 2005.
Red served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during WWII in New Guinea. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Hobbs Senior Citizen's Center. Red liked to dance at the Senior Citizen's Center every Friday and Saturday night. Red would always request his favorite song, "Milk Cow Blues." He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and his always faithful puppies, Ebony and Penny.
Survivors include two sons, David Henson and wife Karen of Caddo Mills, Texas, and Clifford Henson and wife Wanda of Hobbs; daughter Elisha Bixby of Lewisville, Texas; brother Guy Henson of Arkansas; sister Merle Ball of San Angelo, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; seven great-granchildren; and ten step great-grandchildren.
Red was preceded in death by parents T.J. and Eva Henson; son Edward Henson; brothers Johnny and William Henry Henson; sisters Frances Sellers and Jewell Adkins; and first wife Joyce Henson.
