Benito Mendiola
April 3, 1932  -  January 27, 2017

Benito Mendiola, 84, a resident of Hobbs, NM peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday January 27, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Benito was born in Dolores, TX to Fortunato and Bartola Mendiola.

In 1954, he met the love of his life, Claudia Maynes, in Torrington, Wyoming. On October 20, 1954, he married Claudia in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They would remain married for the next 63 years.

In 1959, together along with their two young children Benito and Claudia moved to Hobbs, New Mexico. Soon after they arrived, Benito was employed by Roger Gray at Permian Ford. From the knowledge and experience Benito gained at Permian Ford, Jodi Taylor, and Red Keeling, Benito would later open his own business, Benny's Fina & Tire Repair Shop. He continued working at his shop until January 2012, when he retired due to health issues.

Finding the right words to bring the treasures of a man's life such as Benito, are hard to come by. Benito was a man of integrity, honor, strength, determination, strong work ethic, and loyalty. Benito will forever be remembered and admired for his unconditional love that he so generously shared with all of his family, friends, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. ''Papo'' as he was so lovingly known by all his grandchildren, filled their hearts with so much joy. There was never a time they left without his blessing. His presence will forever be imprinted on the hearts of all those who loved him.

Benito battled Alzheimer's disease the last few years of his life. His family will be wearing purple to bring awareness to Alzheimer's. ''We remember their love when they can no longer remember.''

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, two sisters, one son, Richard Mendiola and grandchild Reinita.

Those left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife, Claudia Mendiola; four sons, Benito Mendiola, Jr of Laredo, TX; Jim Mendiola (Margie); Danny Mendiola (Josie); Benny Ray Mendiola (Tiffany) all of Hobbs; four daughters, Maria Melchor (Juan) of Caldwell, ID; Sandra Bolanos (Eduardo) of Hobbs; Debbie Mendiola-Simms of El Paso, TX; Monica Gallegos (James) of Las Cruces, NM; Twenty grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Two sisters; Janie Martinez of Lansing, MI, Angelita Perez of Laredo, Texas and one brother; Frank Mendiola of Caldwell, ID.

The family would to thank Gentiva Hospice, Elite Home Health, and Dr. Wagner and his staff.
