Our loving mother, Amanda Espinoza passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Mom was born on May 12, 1941, and was 84 years old. Born in south Texas, mom was among seven siblings and grew up to raise her own family of five leaving a legacy that will be remembered, cherished and carried on by family, friends and the community of Hobbs, NM where she lived for the last 50+ years as well as having lived nine or so years in Seminole, TX.
Amanda is preceded in death by her brother, Baltazar Vasquez and is survived by her sons, Arthur Espinoza and Sebastian Juan Espinoza and her daughter, Veronica Espinoza Silvey all of Hobbs, NM. Laid to rest are her daughters, Isabel Marshall, Santa Fe, NM and Christina E. Trees, Austin, TX. Amanda’s grandchildren to whom knew her as “Granny” are from Santa Fe, NM, Rey, Frankie and Antonio Jimenez, from Nashville, TN, Zachary Lizama, from Kileen, TX, Eric Lizama, from Hobbs, NM, grandson Gregory Silvey, Jr. Armando and Jeremiah Espinoza and Peter Nicholas Trees, and from Fremont, Ohio, Jennifer Benavidez and Melissa Diaz. Amanda had several great-grandchildren to whom all hold her in their hearts as “Great Granny.”
Mom dedicated much of her life to the community parishes of St. James Catholic Church, Seminole, TX and St. Helena Catholic Church, Hobbs, NM serving as a director of catechism and RCIA catechist. She was a church secretary, eucharistic minister and lead many rosaries and helped with parishioners’ family functions & receptions as well as volunteering so much time to church functions, fundraisers and celebrations. Amanda retired with Head Start Child and Family Services serving many children and families through her role as a Parent and Grandparent Coordinator.
Mom loved farm life for a while. After moving to her forever neighborhood in Hobbs, she still maintained her love for chickens and birds. She loved her two beloved cockatiels, Michaelangelo I and Michaelangelo II. Mom and Sebastian shared custody of their beloved fur baby, Littles (if you know you know). Many knew of Amanda’s love for quilting, sewing, crocheting, cooking, canning, gardening and entertaining. She loved her morning coffee and mom loved her beautiful teacups and tea parties.
Amanda had such a sense of humor and an easy-going nature about her which made her a great mom, an even better grandmother and great-grandmother and a very good friend to many. Mom loved being an aunt and accepted and loved her role as a god-mother as well. Mom was honored and respected as a matriarch to not only our immediate family but to a vast extended family. She loved to travel. If you moved, she would come to visit you. Mom would celebrate with friends, family and strangers alike. She devoted herself to others and touched the lives of many with her time, prayers and care. Our family tree is extensive with those of blood relation but more so of “ just the ties that bind us” because of the way our parents raised us. It is our mom and dad’s legacy to carry on building strong relationships, supporting one another, celebrating one another, offering prayers and lending help in times of need.
My oldest son, Zach put it best early on when mom first started struggling. He said, “you know mom…Granny has been living her whole life for this.” It struck so on point and it so that we should remember, Amanda loved Jesus her whole life. She lived her life according to His Word with such reverence and she was always preparing and she was ready. May God bless you mom and receive you warmly and may you rest in His arms with eternal peace. Our love to you, Dad, Isabel, Christina, Alex and all who have gone before us…until we meet again.
