Anna Ramirez

December 15, 1949 — May 23, 2019

Anna Maria Ramirez, ‘Chata,' joined the Lord on May 23, 2019, at 69 years of age. Chata was born on December 15, 1949. She married the love of her life, Hector M. Ramirez on May 6, 1972 when she came to live to Hobbs, NM. She was an extremely hard worker and supported Hector in all his endeavors. They met in their hometown of Meoqui, Chihuahua where they both attended high school. They had a marvelous life together and were blessed with three wonderful children, Jesus, Hector Jr. and Cesar. Chata lovingly and painstakingly cared for Jesus and all his medical needs for 19 years until he passed on to a better life. The passing of her son was the most difficult experience of her life and her health began to suffer just a few years later.

Chata's eyes would regain their sparkle when her first granddaughter was born and her life continued to be brightened by her four grandchildren, Isabel, Manny, Jocelyn and Lily, whom were her pride and joy. Her grandkids lovingly called her ‘Mama Chata' and they all shared a very special relationship with her.

Chata suffered from kidney failure and faught a long, hard battle with multiple health complications for the past 21 years. She underwent dialysis for about ten years. It was a miracle in and of itself, for her body to have endured this type of treatment for that period of time. She finally received an organ transplant in 2007. Even on her worst days, she never complained. Up until a few days ago, when asked how she was doing, she replied, ‘I am well.'

She was the most positive person who always saw the good in others and hoped for the best. Her strong faith never waivered and kept her going. She loved being in the Lord's house and sharing her faith and love for God with others. Chata always wore a smile on her face and had a great sense of humor. Her joyful spirit and her presence made others feel better immediately and she lightened the room with her comfort and care.

Chata was the rock of her family. She devoted her life fully to her husband and her sons. She was a very devout Catholic and attended St. Helena's and Our Lady of Guadalupe parishes throughout her life. Hector and Chata had the privilege of being at mass when the statue of our lady of Guadalupe first began shedding tears last year. She thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the group Las Guadalupanas and loved all of its participants.

Chata adored cooking, baking and sewing, crafts she mastered. She was most happy when she was surrounded by her family, providing delicious meals. Biscochos were one of her many specialties, a delicacy she made for all parties. She had a joyous personality and despite ongoing challenges and continuous physical pain, she was truly a happy person. She embraced life passionately and made the best of every day. Even in her hardest moments, she never stopped cooking; it gave her great satisfaction to nourish others, both physically and spiritually.

Chata is survived by her two daughter-in-laws, Celia Ramirez and Marisol Cardenas, her three siblings, Amador Rodriguez, Margarita Carrasco and Sandra Morales and her nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of our family and friends and to all of the staff at Dessert Springs and Kendred Hospice Care for their excellent, loving care and support during this difficult time.
