Apollinia Aguilar

July 19, 1946 — March 16, 2024

Hobbs

Apollonia "Appie" Aguilar was born on July 19, 1946 to Augustin and Martina Orona. She went home to the loving arms of those who went before her on March 16, 2024. She was the fourth of nine children. She married Ismael Aguilar on August 27, 1981 and had one son, Jason Aguilar. Her heart was held by her son. He was her everything. He gave her four grandchildren, Cesar, Joaquin, Aries and Malichi whom she loved very much.

Appie worked for GTE for 30 years. She started as a phone operator and throughout the years she took classes and training and eventually moved up to being a switch tech. She had to retire early to take care of her husband who struggled with cancer up until his death on January 7, 2002. Soon after her husband's death she became her mother's main caregiver until her death. As a young woman her father passed away unexpectedly. When this happened she stepped in and helped her mother with her younger sisters. She was a nurturer to many people and spent most of her life taking care of her family in one way or another. She was not only a mother to her only son but was also a second mom to her younger sisters and a second grandma to her numerous nieces and nephews. She was so loved and respected. Appie was a strong woman with strong convictions and was the family's disciplinarian. She held everyone to a higher standard. This came from an immense love that she had for her family. She was the backbone of the family. She will be missed tremendously and her absence will be felt for many, many years to come.

She enjoyed spending time with family and loved playing Lotteria and Skip Bo. She also loved watching Hallmark movies and police dramas. She collected wind chimes and thimbles from many U.S. destinations and her favorite was her collection of angels.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ismael Aguilar, her parents Augustin and Martina Orona, her brothers Robert Orona, Juan Orona, Reynaldo Orona and Augustin Orona, Jr and her nephew Anthony Hernandez.

She is survived by her son Jason Aguilar and wife Roberta of Hobbs, her grandchildren, Cesar Aguilar, Joaquin Sanchez, Aries Aguilar and Malichi Sanchez, her sisters Maricela Hernandez of Hobbs, Manuela Whitaker of Memphis, TN, Stella Orona Torres of Hobbs Patricia Orona of Hobbs, her honorary sisters, Sylvia Saiz of Carlsbad and Chriselda Love of Hobbs and numerous nieces and nephews.
