Bernard Dale Adkins passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, Monday, February 25, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. Mr. Adkins was born April 30, 1927, in Veribest, Texas. His parents, R.D. and Eula Adkins named him after the doctor who delivered him. He had one brother, Junior, who passed away at the age of 8, and his sister Dorothy Jean Jordan currently lives in Lubbock Texas.
Mr. Adkins grew up in San Angelo, Texas, and graduated from San Angelo Central High School. From his father he learned to play football and one of his familys proudest moments was when he played on the undefeated state championship San Angelo Central football team. He joined the Navy in 1945 to fight in World War II and returned to play football for San Angelo College after the war. After several tough years of farming, he went to work for Welex and was transferred to Hobbs in 1957 where he raised his family and completed 33 years of service. Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lou Miles Adkins three children, Stephen, Judy, and Chris 11 grandchildren, and 7 greatgrandchildren.
There was a viewing held at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home on Wednesday the 27th at 3321 N. Dal Paso Street from 9:00ll:00am, with funeral services following at First Baptist Church at 301 E. Snyder Street at 2:00pm.
