Bertha Lee Richardson was born to Casper Booker and Dorothy Booker on March 31, 1958, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where she graduated from high school. She was the oldest of six children. She was with Jesse Nelson Sr until his passing. She had four children Damitria Richardson, Drucilla Richardson of (Lubbock, Texas), Jessica Nelson and Jesse Nelson both of Hobbs, New Mexico. She had five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was an employee of Hobbs Head Start for 35 years. She absolutely loved her Head Start Family. Bertha enjoyed shopping, traveling, giving gifts made with love and cooking. She also loved colorful sneakers. She passed away June 14, 2026, at home. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her younger sister Vicky, and her oldest daughter Damitria Richardson and son in law Jerry Wrighter.

A visitation for Bertha will be Tuesday June 23, 2026, from 1-6pm at Chapel of Hope. The funeral service will be held Wednesday June 24, 2026, at 10am at Chapel of Hope with a burial to follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
