Carson Walker

Carson was born December 31, 1942, in Altus, Oklahoma to Reuel and Nola Walker.  He grew up in Altus, where he made many friends who became part of his extended family.  He was a football player for the Altus Bulldogs for the class of 1962.  He met his love, Sharon Goodnough, at the Dairy Freeze in Altus in 1959.  Although she was stubborn and could not see the love he had for her, she would come to realize they were a match made in heaven.  They married on December 16, 1961, in Altus.

They resided in Altus until he went to work for Boeing in Kansas.  He later went to work for Cablevision in Altus.  Over the next ten years with Cablevision, they moved multiple times to various cities where he led the initiative to bring cable to 1000’s of people.  In 1975, they settled in Hobbs where he went to work for K&S Electric.  He worked there for the next 38 years until he retired in 2015.  He made many life-long friends during that time and helped many men to become certified electricians.  He often spoke of these men as if they were his sons and truly enjoyed his time with them.

He loved playing music.  He played the bass guitar, piano, and saxophone in various bands from the 1950s until the mid-1990s. He loved all music and especially enjoyed his time with his oldest son, Alan, who was a drummer for many of the bands.  Carson regularly entertained his family, friends, and neighbors with his keyboard.  If he could not be found in his shop fixing things, he could be found in his music studio playing a song.  He enjoyed tinkering with things.  He always had an idea to solve whatever problem was posed to him.  He raced go-karts for several years, fixed golf carts for the soccer association, and wheelchairs for anyone who needed them.

Carson had a strong love for his family and friends.  We have many fond memories of cookouts, playing horseshoes, camping, gardening, and riding motorcycles.  He could make anyone laugh and made the best out of the tough times.  He was a man who always had to be busy.  He could not stand to sit and be idle.  He was a very caring man who loved people.

Carson battled with Parkinson’s Disease for over 25 years.  He never allowed the disease to run his life.  It may have slowed him a little, but he still managed to work on things and enjoy his family.  The graveyard of the various wheelchairs and walkers over the years is a testament to the fact he never stopped moving.  He had a great love for God and his church, Christian Center.

Carson is survived by his wife, Sharon Walker; sons Alan and wife Lisa Walker of Marble Falls, Texas, Michael and wife Kaylenn Walker of Hobbs; grandchildren Allison Walker of Austin, Texas, Eric Walker of Marble Falls, Texas, Camden Walker, Konnor McEachern, and Karson McEachern of Hobbs; and sister-in-law Barbara Walker of Southlake, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuel and Nola Walker; brothers Jim and Richard Walker; and sister Marie Smith.
