Concepción Portillo went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born on December 8, 1940, in El Tule, Chihuahua, Mexico, making him 85 years old at the time of his death. For forty-eight years he called Hobbs, New Mexico, home before relocating to Lubbock, Texas, where he lived for the last six years of his life.
He spent much of his adult life working as a truck driver, a career that took him across the Southwest and gave him countless stories to share. In his spare time, he loved gardening, remodeling homes, and enjoying casual meals at McDonald’s with friends—simple pleasures he pursued with genuine enthusiasm.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dianna Portillo; his children, Cecilia Portillo, Javier Portillo, Celia Portillo, and Lourdes Portillo; his step children, Tabitha Quintana, Esther Rodriguez, Eliseo Rodriguez, Alma Rodriguez, and Linda Rodriguez; his sister Hermila Portillo (late husband Asención Palma); his sister Arcadia Jurado (late husband Nicholas Jurado); his sister Susanna Camposano and her husband Jesús Camposano; his brother Feliberto Portillo (late wife Cristina Portillo); and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesús Portillo and Casimira Portillo de Montoya, his brother Andrés Portillo and his wife Remedios.
A visitation for Concepcion will be held Monday January 5, 2026, from 1pm to 6pm at Chapel of Hope. A mass will take place at St. Helena Catholic Church Tuesday January 6, 2026, at 2pm with a burial to follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Condolences may be made online at www.chapelofhopefunerals.com. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home, Hobbs, NM.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the family’s choosing.

Le sobreviven su amada esposa, Dianna Portillo; sus hijos, Cecilia Portillo, Javier Portillo, Celia Portillo y Lourdes Portillo; sus hijastros, Tabitha Quintana, Esther Rodriguez, Eliseo Rodriguez, Alma Rodriguez y Linda Rodriguez; su hermana Hermila Portillo (cuyo esposo, Asención Palma, ya falleció); su hermana Arcadia Jurado (cuyo esposo, Nicholas Jurado, ya falleció); su hermana Susanna Camposano y su esposo Jesús Camposano; su hermano Feliberto Portillo (cuya esposa, Cristina Portillo, ya falleció); y muchos sobrinos y sobrinas.
Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Jesús Portillo y Casimira Portillo de Montoya, su hermano Andrés Portillo y su esposa Remedios.
El velorio de Concepción se llevará a cabo el lunes 5 de enero de 2026, de 1pm a 6pm en la Capilla de la Esperanza. La misa se celebrará en la Iglesia Católica de Santa Helena el martes 6 de enero de 2026 a las 2pm, seguida del sepelio en el Cementerio Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
