Curtis Alan Babcock, 62, of Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away on May 21, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on July 24, 1962, in Odessa, Texas.
A lifelong member of the Permian Basin oilfield community, Curtis was a well-known businessman with deep roots in the region. He spent many years working with Howard Supply and later became the founding owner of Babcock Supply, earning the respect of peers and customers alike for his integrity, knowledge, and dedication.
Curtis was known for his generous spirit, sharp memory, and unwavering thoughtfulness. A passionate Corvette enthusiast, he was an active member of the Border States Corvette Club. He loved road trips to Ruidoso, Saturday lunches with family, and Sunday morning breakfasts—especially when they involved McDonald’s or donuts.
He lived by the words:
“Treat the janitor as if they were the CEO.”
Curtis is survived by his wife, Tina Babcock; his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Gene Shifflet of Houston, TX; his children: Brandon Babcock and wife Kelly of Hobbs, NM; Stephanie Babcock of Hobbs, NM; Joseph Babcock of Hobbs, NM; and Michael New of Boston, MA; his sisters, Denise McElyea and Dana Slovacek, both of Houston, TX; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Henry Babcock, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the American Liver Foundation.
