Darrel Lawson

Darrel Lawson, 77 of Hobbs, NM, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 15, 2022.  Darrel was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Darrel entered this world on August 9, 1944, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, born to Clyde and Lorena Lawson.  He grew up in Hobbs where he attended school.  He retired as a service supervisor for Xcel Energy after 37 years of service.

He met and married Rebecca Helms on September 26, 1969.  They built a 52-year marriage and life together in Hobbs where they had two daughters, Jennifer, and Leigh Ann.  Darrel had a lifelong passion for working on and racing cars.  He won many awards and was very well known at the Hobbs Airfield Speedway.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Lorena and a sister, Joann Grogan.

Darrel is survived by his wife Rebecca Lawson.  Daughter, Jennifer McFadden, and her husband Michael of Hobbs.  Daughter, Leigh Ann Bradley and her husband Kyle of Plainview, Texas.  Grand children, Kennedy Wright and husband Levi of Slaton, TX.  Payton Bradley of La Jolla, CA.  Jared Hammond and wife Kimberly of Hobbs.  Carson Bradley of Canyon, TX.  Great Grandsons, Balin and Tucker Wright of Slaton, TX.  Sister, Janice Clary of Dallas, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
