Kay Broadus

January 22, 1951 — May 15, 2024

Hobbs

Kay Broadus passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 22, 1951, in De Queen, Arkansas, Kay was the first of four children of Dale and Bobbye Bond. She graduated from Hobbs High School in 1969, then attended New Mexico Junior College where she received her Associates Degree in 1971. The following year she married her husband, Allen, on February 12, 1972, at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church.

Throughout her life, Kay was a selfless servant. She loved her church home at Taylor Memorial where she served in many capacities including Operation Christmas Child, a love inspired by her mother. In her earlier years she loved teaching children's Sunday School, and later found her strongest connection with her adult Sunday School group and their strong community of prayer.

In 2022, Kay retired from a rewarding thirty year career with the Hobbs Municipal Schools, with her longest tenure at the Alternative Learning Center, where she was known as "Ms. Kay". She positively impacted the lives of countless youth, all the while considering herself to be the lucky one blessed by them.

Kay's family was her greatest source of pride. Her children Brian and Kirsten blessed her with a lifetime of joy, wonderful spouses, and five beautiful granddaughters who were the light of her life. When she met Allen in 1968 it was love at first sight, and the only thing to separate them from that point forward was the three years he served in the Army during the Vietnam War. They considered themselves better together, enjoying fishing trips, family reunions, daily walks through the neighborhood, working in the yard, and being outside. This February, they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Above all, Kay loved her Heavenly Father and lived her life for Him. During her brief season of illness, she held tight to Ephesians 3:20, demonstrating her devotion and faith to God.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents Dale and Bobbye Bond, and brother Mark. She is survived by her husband Allen; her son Brian (Carrie), and daughter Kirsten Schaap (Rick); her brother Brad, and sister Jane Eidson (Gary); her granddaughters Bailee and Madison Broadus, and Olivia, Ava, and Chloe Schaap; her niece McCall and nephew Spencer Eidson; and many loving relatives and friends.

For those wishing to honor her legacy, please consider a memorial contribution to Operation Christmas Child (samaritanspurse.org) or Gideons International (gideons.org).
