Dorothy Mccormick

December 23, 1931 — July 6, 2022

Dorothy Louise Easom McCormick (“Dot”) was born on December 23, 1931 and concluded her extraordinary and productive life on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. She was known for her positive outlook as her mantra was “Every day is a blessing!”

She was the daughter of Howard and Lillian Easom of Walnut Grove, Mississippi. She graduated from University of Mississippi with a Bachelor in Business Education where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. In June of 1952, she married the love of her life, Talbot Green McCormick, Jr. (“Mac”).

In 1960, they made their home in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and decorator. In her community, she was actively involved at First Baptist Church with youth, young marrieds, Pastor Search Committees, Hospitality, and many other roles. In addition, she was in P.E.O. Sisterhood, a Hobbs School Board member, Literary Club, United Way, Hospice Board member, Maddox Foundation Scholarship Board member, and involved with the Miss New Mexico Pageant. She was an entrepreneur and received many awards for community service including the College of the Southwest Trustee Free Enterprise award, named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club, Citizen of the Year by the Hobbs Board of Realtors, and a Lifetime member of the Women’s Service League Salvation Army. With her “You can do anything you want!” spirit, she even acquired a private pilot’s license.

Dr. Mac and Dot retired to Granbury, Texas in 2006. Life was filled with new friends, playing bridge, and many clubs in addition to volunteer opportunities with Lakeside Baptist Church, Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Granbury Children, and many other service organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Talbot McCormick, Jr. “Dr. Mac” in November 2021. She is survived by her son, “Mac” Talbot McCormick III (Melanie) of Atlanta, GA, her daughter, Pat Thornton (Charles) of Grapevine, TX, and her son, Sid McCormick (Susan) of Waco, TX.

Her grandchildren - Ryan McCormick (Courtney) of Marietta, GA, John Thornton of Greensboro, NC, Meredith Talmage (Matthew) of Oxford, GA, Jenilee Anthony (Steven) of Nashville, TN, Drew McCormick (Lauren) of Waco, TX, Caroline Thornton (Austin Lewis) of Charlotte, NC, and Matthew McCormick (Katie) of Seattle, WA. Her great grandchildren - Xander, Jamie, and Serena Talmage, Loie Anthony, Ryan Rose and River McCormick.

Mama Dot was so loved and will be greatly missed. She touched so many lives and the ripple effects of her impact will continue in her family and friends. “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.” Psalms 116:15

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. A private family graveside will be held in Hobbs, NM.
