Ella Louise Brooks-Smith

Ella Louise Brooks-Smith was born on January 10, 1945, in San Augustine, Texas. She departed this life on Monday, October 30, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas.

She moved to Hobbs at the age of 7 from San Augustine, with her family. She had resided in Hobbs 43 years, prior to moving to Lubbock, Texas, in 1992. While living in Hobbs Ella worked in the medical field, until she retired from the Good Samaritan Village.

Ella accepted Christ at an early age, attending the Little Zion Baptist Church, and later at Scharbauer Street Church of Christ, until she moved to Lubbock, where she was first affiliated with Central Church of Christ and then Sunset Church of Christ.

Ella was a wonderful friend and mother, who enjoyed reading, volunteering to help others, especially at early childhood centers, where all the children cherished her hugs and affectionate smiles. Her relatives and friends also loved her one-of-a-kind homemade German Chocolate cake.

She was a devoted mother, sister, cousin, niece, and an adoring grandmother to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Eula Evans; her father, Robert C. Brooks; two sisters, JoAnn Thomas, and Esther Brooks; three nieces, Rita Sampson, Vanessa Thompson, and Ramona Brooks-Gatson; and a granddaughter, April Baker.

Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Steve Smith, Mike Smith (Soraya), Timmy Smith, Sharon Smith, Sherry Smith, Kenneth Smith and Patrick Smith; her bonus children, Arnett Lavow, Jr., Carl Smith (Carla), Chris Smith (Monalisa), Ruby Smith, Rodney Smith, Jeff Carrethers, Vertis Gibson, Sr., and Keenan Waits; two siblings, Mary Mason (Robert), and Robert Brooks (Connie); two aunts, Ella Turner and Eliza J. Singleton; an uncle, J.C. Boykins; brother-in-law, Archie Woods; special daughters in love, Alexandria Norwood, Nury Pando, and Bobbie Kostelecky; thirty-three grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; her godmother, Essie Mae Martin; special life-long friends, Mary Jordan, Nellie Armitige, Earline Johnson, Raymond Mitchell, Vivian Heckard, Pam Heckard, Jackie McNelty, Stella Cook, Linda Brice, Ruby Faye Chapman, Tommie Markham and Ida Mae Lewis.
