He came to Hobbs in 1972 as the station commander of the Army Recruiting Center. After 3 ½ years he retired with 20 years of service in the Army. He became a fireman for a year, but didn’t like being an ambulance driver so became the first General Manager of McDonalds when it came to Hobbs in 1976-77. George learned a lot, but was raising 5 kids and so went to work for the Post Office for 8 years. He retired on disability December 1985 and then drove a yellow dog for 3 years. He then moved up to the big ones! George drove the activity bus for 15 years. He had a great time with the kids – they were great! He retired from B & G Transportation after 18 years. He enjoyed working for two great bosses, Gene and Mike Whitehead. George and his wife, Frankie found Hobbs to be a great place to live and bring up their children.
