Glenda Cox

May 29, 1952 — September 9, 2020

Hobbs

Glenda Kay (Brister) Cox was born in Hobbs, NM on May 29, 1952. She stepped into the arms of Jesus September 9, 2020 in Lubbock, TX surrounded by her family.

Glenda was born to Loyd and Louise Brister and grew up in Hobbs where she was a lifelong resident. She married the love of her life, Amos Cox, on July 4, 1970. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. She had one son, Shane Brister, but had a hand in raising many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Glenda worked as a beautician, where she would later use that training just for family. She was a skilled seamstress and had a passion for quilting. Many treasured gifts were those that came from her hands. She was a master cook. She loved making chocolate gravy or a carrot cake and her chicken fried steak was the best around. She was a collector of dolls, fabric and sewing.

She will best be remembered for how well she loved and took care of her family. She had the warmest hugs. If you were in her home, then you were one of hers. You could often find her watching The Price is Right, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. She complained about watching Monday Night Raw, but she knew the ins and outs of the Smackdown. The kids loved that she had a stash of 3 musketeers that she saved just for them. She loved a good soap opera, re-arranging her living room and a diet Dr. Pepper from sonic with extra extra ice. If you had a hard day, she would have an RC Cola and a moon pie ready for you. She loved cleaning house to Polka and listening to Jimmy Swaggart. She loved the Atlanta Braves, watching RFD, and the King James version of the bible. She loved Facebook, even though she had numerous accounts because she locked herself out them all. She kept track of every sport or band and activity the kids participated in and she cheered hard for them, even if she couldn’t be there. The simple things in life is what brought her joy. She enriched the lives of everyone she encountered and is already missed more than words can express.

She is survived by her husband of the home, Amos Cox, and her dogs Sparklett, Sugar and Maggie, one son, Shane Brister and wife Katie of Hobbs, NM, grandchildren; Shaye Brister and wife Savannah of Lovington, NM, Trinity Haynes of Hobbs, NM. Whitney Collins and husband Travis of Wichita, KS. Brooklyn, Jaidyn and Jarron Brister of Hobbs, NM, 10 great grandchildren, a sister Joyce Hamon and husband Melvin of Pampa, TX, a sister JoAnn Tallant and husband Melvin of Foreman, AR, a brother Loyd Brister of Hobbs, NM, a sister Mildred Smiley and husband James of Eunice, NM, a sister Joyce Anderson of Pauls Valley, OK, a  brother Arthur Cox and wife Carla of Eunice, NM, and a sister Carla McNeil and husband Michael of Eunice, NM,  numerous nieces and nephews.
