Guadalupe "Lupe" Hernandez

January 30, 1949 — November 9, 2025

Hobbs

Guadalupe “Lupe” Velásquez Hernández, affectionately known by many as Barbie, Mundo, and LuLu, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 9, 2025, surrounded by her husband, brother, nieces, and nephews.

Born to Rev. Simon Velásquez Sr. and Paula Chávez Velásquez, Lupe lived 76 beautiful years as a devoted Christian woman of faith, love, and service. She fought the good fight until the very end and is now rejoicing in heaven, reunited with those who went before her.

Lupe dedicated 25 years of her life working in housekeeping at Lea Regional Medical Center, where her kindness, hard work, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a bright light who cared deeply for others and always gave her best.

She loved flowers, stuffed animals, and sharing meals with family — especially her favorite trips to McDonald’s, Taco Villa, and Denny’s with her sister. These simple joys reflected her loving and joyful heart.

On July 28, 2013, Lupe married her sweetheart, Rev. Joe D. Hernández, with whom she shared a deep and enduring love rooted in faith.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Joe D. Hernández; her brother, Manuel Velásquez, and his wife; her stepfamily; and all of her beloved nieces and nephews, to many of whom she was more like a grandmother and mother figure.

Lupe was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Simon Velásquez Sr., and Paula Chávez Velásquez; stepmother, Ernestina Hernández; brothers, Simon Velásquez Jr., and Sylvester Velásquez Sr.; sisters, Maria Moreno and Juana Ramírez; and nephews, Sylvester Velásquez Jr. and Alvaro Moreno Jr.

Her love, laughter, and wisdom will forever remain in their hearts. Her unwavering faith, strength, and compassion will never be forgotten. Though we mourn her loss, we take comfort knowing she is at peace in her heavenly home, surrounded by eternal love.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12th, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel of Hope, followed by burial at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
