Helen Ruth Shipp, longtime resident of Hobbs, N.M., active member of the First Baptist Church then became member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. Our loving sister, aunt, and friend died peacefully, August 20th in Hobbs, N.M. at her home, after a short illness. She had excellent care with Gentiva Hospice. At age 95, Helen lived a full and beautiful life. She was devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family, her community and her friends. Absent from the body but present with the Lord, she has undoubtedly been greeted in heaven with the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
Helen was born October 24, 1929, in Lamesa, Texas to Hobson A. Shipp and Ruth Mae Stanley Shipp. Preceding her in death are her parents, her older brother, H.A. Shipp Jr., her niece Joni Lynn Lanford and her brother-in-law, Allen Clift. Helen is survived by her sisters, Bobbie J. Lanford, husband (Don) and sister Sarah E. Clift. She was loved by all her many nieces and nephews.
Helen taught for 40 years at Hobbs High School. She was truly a devoted teacher and friend. She never wanted to leave Hobbs because of her many friends and former students. Helen left a lasting impression of a bright, witty, generous and loving woman. She lived her life for others and built her treasures in Heaven. She will be missed but will forever be in our hearts and memories.
