J Teague

September 27, 1937 — January 31, 2019

JE Teague, 81, passed from this earth on Thursday, January 31, 2019. He was born September 27, 1937 on the family homestead in Knowles, NM.
He graduated from Lovington High School then attended South Plains College in Levelland, Tx. Soon after that, he got his PRCA card. He was going strong when the US Army called. He went to Ft. Benton, AR then to Ft. Lewis in Washington State. He continued to rodeo during and after his Army service.

JE worked in various positions throughout his lifetime, he was most recently a salesman for Get-a Grip Supplies, Inc., however he was most passionate and proudest of being a "horseman". He took great pride in training and having quality performance horses. He was happiest when in the arena.

JE was a fan of athleticism, as such admired the drive of any devoted athlete. Whether tennis, bull riding, or his beloved JC Thunderbird basketball teams, he watched with a true respect for the discipline and sacrifice of each athlete.

He was a board member of the Western Heritage Museum and Cowboy Hall of Fame, NMJC Athletic Booster Club, and a member of Ultimate Calf Roping Association.

These passions were second only to his love of family and his pursuit of God.

In 1996, he and Virginia were married and enjoyed over 22 years together.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Virginia, stepdaughters Mandy Duncan-Sayre (Chad) of Hobbs, NM, Katie Duncan-Summers (C.J.) of Midland, TX; sister Janice Elaine Shannon of Lubbock, TX; beloved granddaughters Kenzie Marie Summers of Midland, TX and Sadie Grace Sayre of Hobbs, NM; several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents Cowboy and Hattie Teague, sister Margaret Nell Teague, brother Douglas Teague, and grandson, Canyan Lee Summers.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donations be made to the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame for the JE Teague Memorial Calf Roping Scholarships or Western World Missions, Inc., P.O. Box 5200, San Angelo, TX 76902.
