James Witherspoon

February 20, 1935 — November 27, 2020

Hobbs

Jim (J-Dub) Witherspoon of Hobbs, NM was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 27, 2020.

He was born to Verna and WT Witherspoon on February 20, 1935.

Jim and his wife, Judy Philpot, both originally from Mena, Arkansas, moved to Hobbs in 1960 to work for the Hobbs Municipal Schools. He coached at Heizer & Highland Junior High Schools as well as Hobbs High School. He eventually retired from coaching sports to teaching the DECA program, where he was nicknamed J-Dub by his beloved students. When asked what he would have done differently, he paused and responded,” If I could do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing!” Jim loved life and loved well! He will be greatly missed by his son, John Witherspoon and grandsons Malachi and Isaiah Witherspoon, his daughter, Janie Witherspoon Davis and granddaughter, Abby Foster & husband, Clint Foster along with the Redman, Philpot and Ritter families.

He was preceded in death by his wife Judy Philpot Witherspoon of Hobbs, NM, his sister, Wanda Redman of Carlsbad, NM, and his son in law, Ken Davis of Weatherford, TX.

We celebrate that he achieved the goal of his life, eternity with Jesus Christ.
