Jean Bateman

November 14, 1962 — October 15, 2019

Hobbs

Jean Marie (Langner) Bateman faithfully journeyed home to her Lord and Savior on October 15, 2019.

Born in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 14, 1962, young Jean soon moved with her father, mother, and brother to Hobbs, New Mexico where Jean would go on to attend and graduate from Hobbs Municipal Schools (1980) and New Mexico Junior College (2002).

Jean had a servant heart and was known for her many acts of kindness.  For years, Jean was the woman who made possible the Christmas Tins provided by Eunice Pump & Supply.  She created each piece of fudge, every peanut butter ball, and all of the mini-bundt cakes with love.

Her heart for animals was loving and open, caring for all who needed help.  Even during her long battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Jean tended a menagerie of animals including two rescue dogs, one stray cat, and a transient grackle with broken leg.

While her love was expressed in many ways, she also enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitching.  For years these talents were only enjoyed by the family until she was lovingly convinced to overcome her modesty and display some of her crafts at the Lea County Fair.  As with everything else she attempted, she earned all blue ribbons.

Jean was a faithful and loving wife to her husband Mark Bateman (Hobbs), a confidant, sounding-board, and adviser to her son Justin Bateman (Odessa), a best-friend and teacher to her daughter Meagan Bateman (Hobbs), a loving supporter of her son-in-love Jesse Ray Nelson Jr. (Hobbs), and the world’s best Hunny Bunny to her grandson, Jesse Ray Nelson III (Hobbs).

She is also survived by her brother, Wes Langner (Edgewood), and countless extended family members and friends.

Jean was predeceased by her father, Conrad Herman Langner, and her mother Alice Mae (Riley) Langner.
