Obituary
Joanne Hummel
Joanne was born to Mace and Nancy King on August 3, 1944, in Banana River Naval Air Center, Brevard Co., Florida. She was raised with two sisters Barbara and Beverly in Artesia New Mexico. At the age of 6 Joanne began piano lessons which developed into a lifelong deep devotion for music. She played the piano and organ and loved to sing. During those formative years of musical development, she also found and accepted the love for her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. It was through this Love she found Gods calling to serve Him with her talents by playing and leading church choirs and soloist throughout southeastern New Mexico and finally serving for over 35 years at Belvue Baptist Church. Her passion to serve others is evident by the testimony of the many people she served. Her husband Larry G. Hummel will tell you that she could not go out into the public without being seen by current and former students and receiving their expressions of love. Joanne felt there was no troubled child who could not be helped if they were listened to, loved and given proper discipline from their parents and teachers. During her 29 and a half years with Eunice ISD, she commanded her classroom with love and respect and desired it in return.
As friends and family know, she enjoyed picking on and occasionally pranking those she cared for. It has been said that she had quite the reputation for the creativity in her pranks. Joanne was also a believer in the power of prayer and was often on her knees before our Heavenly Father petitioning him for others and herself. She often told her son of how her knees were sure getting sore from being on them praying for him, family, friends, coworkers, students and world events to which her son replied to her “get a pillow or knee pads mom Keep Praying”.
Joanne’s love for her Heavenly Father was shown in how she willingly, selflessly and passionately served her husband, mother, family and friends through her gifts of time, money and most importantly prayer. The desire of her heart was to lead others to the Throne of God in praise and worship so they could also come to a life changing relationship with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ so that she could see each of us in that Great Glorious Kingdom of God.
