John C. Jack Briggs was born November 15, 1917, and climbed Jacob's ladder April 6, 2009.
Major John Briggs was retired Army and served in World War II as well as Korea. He was a member of the last Horse Mounted Cavalry and spent the majority of life on horseback. Jack homesteaded in Alaska, went to college in Mexico City and successfully hunted just about every type of wild game. At 91 years old, Jack still enjoyed his church, Immanuel Baptist, and his 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His life was full of adventure; his life and death exemplified faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jack is survived by his wife, Carol Briggs of the home; his four stepchildren, Mark Staab, Ursula Cooley and Katrina Weiss of Hobbs and Heidi Rice of Las Cruces and their spouses. He is also survived by two sons, Gary and Tim Briggs of Oregon.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday; April 9, 2009, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 130 W. Roxana, Hobbs, NM. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
