We owe much to Marshal and the others of his generation. Answering his countrys call, Marshal enlisted in the US Army on December 9, 1941, and served with honor throughout the war. In l944 Marshal participated in the liberation of the Philippine Islands and in 1945, the Battle of Okinawa. When he was discharged from the army he came back to Hobbs and went to work for Phillips Petroleum as a welder for 34 years. He was a certified welder working on boilers. He was highly recognized for his capabilities and good work ethic. He was once told that he was the best welder in NM. Marshal was a gifted man who could build andor repair anything. If he could see it, he could make it. He has helped many people in numerous ways.
Marshal always enjoyed hunting and fishing. He went deer and elk hunting many times and was often a guide for other hunters. He enjoyed going to his place at Brownwood Lake and shared good times there with family and friends. He enjoyed gardening and for years you would see tomato plants, jalapeno peppers, squash, okra, turnip greens, and onions growing beautifully. He enjoyed sharing the produce with others as much as he did growing it.
