Kelly Jean Payne

Born February 18, 1965, to James M. Payne and Virginia Y. Oates and passed away April 28, 2026, in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Kelly Jean Payne was a daughter, sister, mother, Grammy and a true friend to all who knew her. Warm, Welcoming, and full of heart. Kelly had a gift for making friends everywhere she went. For many years she worked as a waitress in Hobbs NM serving generations of visitors at Wilma’s Café, Glovers Grill, Chili Peppers, Saturdays, North 40, Spaghettios, Iron Skillet & Tina’s Café.

Her quick smile, easy laugh and genuine care turned tables into gatherings and customers into friends. Kelly loved family above all. She poured patience, joy and steady support into her children and grandchildren, creating a home, filled with stories, hugs and lasting memories. As a daughter and sister, she offered loyalty and kindness. As a friend she listened without judgement and gave freely of herself. Lastly, Kelly had an undeniable love for animals. Having owned many pets of her own, she was a true advocate for all animals.

Kelly helped countless families in many communities reunite with lost pets and helped find homes for the animals without. Her warmth, humor and compassionate spirit touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends and the many communities she brightened with her presence.

Kelly is preceded in death by her father, James M Payne, Mother Virginia Oates, multiple siblings, and 4 grandchildren.

Kelly is survived by her son Richard J Holmes, Daughter Sarah J Kuykendall, Daughter in Law Amanda Holmes, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
