Obituary

Lewis Franklin Wright was born May 30, 1940, in Kamay, Texas to George Dewey Wright and Espea Estella (Jones) Wright. He passed away July 22, 2026, in Brownfield, Texas, at 86 years old.

He married Melta Faye Bates on July 7, 1961, at Free Holiness Church in Waurika, Oklahoma.

Moving to Hobbs in 1964 Lewis was a welder by trade and built over 13,000 cattleguards, mostly for the oilfield. He taught his children to work hard and not to be freeloaders.

He loved flying airplanes; flying was one of his passions.

He is survived by two sons, Dallen F. Wright and wife Tamara, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and Kyle D. Wright and wife, Bridget of Hobbs, New Mexico. Also, he is survived by 14 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his son Chris Wright and daughter Dalene Wright Sage and his parents, two sisters, Betty Sue Johnson and Wilma Joy Rickard, one brother George Daniel Wright, two grandsons, Tyler Wright and Zachary Wright, and three great grandchildren.

There will be a visitation at Chapel of Hope, Hobbs, New Mexico from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, July 25, 2026. There will be a graveside service at 9am on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
