Today, we celebrate and remember the life of Linda Oliver-Stinson, a woman of quiet strength, unshakable love, and enduring grace. Born on July 30, 1954, in Levelland, Texas, to the late Mabel Lee Smith and Jimmy T. Oliver, Linda was the eldest of eight children, six girls and two boys—and quickly grew into the role of nurturer, protector, and example for her siblings.
Linda lived a beautiful life, one deeply rooted in family and faith. She was a devoted mother, always lovingly surrounded by the three beautiful children of her marriage to Melvin Stinson. Her first thought was always for family—lifting, supporting, and believing in each of them with a heart full of optimism and love.
A proud 1972 graduate of Hobbs High School, Linda made her mark in the Lea County community, where she was known for her warmth and tireless work ethic. She faithfully served at Wal-Mart for over 30 years, later adding her presence to Dollar Tree. Her loyalty, reliability, and friendly nature made her a familiar and beloved face to so many.
Linda lived with formidable courage and quiet strength, a legacy she had passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was a woman who found joy in life’s simple pleasures—baking, sewing, playing spades, watching birds from her window, and tuning in to her favorite television host, Steve Harvey, on Family Feud.
Her faith remained a cornerstone of her life. She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Winford Gipson and First Lady Bettye, where she found spiritual strength and fellowship. In 2017, she relocated to Lubbock, Texas, to be closer to her beloved grandsons, whose presence brought her great joy.
Linda leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and family unity. She is lovingly survived by her children: Tanesha Stinson of Hobbs, Nygai Stinson of Hobbs, and Oliver (Ericka) Stinson of Lubbock; and by her six treasured grandchildren: Jasmine Swain, Jelani Royal, Ashton Monday, Javian Stinson, Brylan Stinson, and Carter Stinson.
She also leaves her sisters: Betty Jean Oliver, Deborah (Larry) Triplett of Hobbs, Glenda Oliver, and Veronica Lee (Royal) Smith of Houston, TX; her brothers: Anthony Evans and Ron Devoe Smith of Hobbs; her uncle, Junior Edwards of Hobbs; her aunt, Wilma Tillman of California; and many cherished cousins, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Jimmy T., her sister Pamela Smith, her stepfather Earl Smith, as well as a host of beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Rick Tyler and family for their loving kindness. And they pause to lovingly remember Linda’s late best friend, Bennie Jo Brooks, whose friendship brought joy and companionship over the years.
Linda Oliver-Stinson's life was a testament to love, resilience, and faith. Her light will continue to shine in the lives of those she loved, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
