Lucia Duarte

Lucia went into the heavenly arms of our Lord on May 9, 2018 in Lubbock, TX. She was born February 25, 1946, in Carlsbad, NM.to Cruz and Leandra Ruiz. She married Salvador O. Duarte September 18, 1963 in Carlsbad, NM.

Our rock...Each one of us share so many beautiful memories of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and best friend. She was a part of so many lives. One thing is sure, she was known for her STRENGTH, she kept our family "together." Mom supported her kids and grandkids, brothers and sisters...living every day like she never got tired.

Many of you may know her from the ballpark. She spent years of her life out there both coaching and cheering on her kids and grandkids, as well as, many family friends. No doubt, Homegrown's number one fan. Mom was also a seamstress for many years, we've all heard many stories about how mom made the prettiest wedding gowns and quinceanera dresses. She touched so many lives...

Mom also enjoyed sitting outside watering her precious garden. A garden she planted after our dad passed away. It's a beautiful garden with roses of many colors. We'll keep up your beautiful garden now mom, it's a tribute to both you and dad now. You will always live in our hearts and forever be in our memories. We're going to miss all the stories you loved to tell. Thank you for giving us life, for all your hard work, it didn't go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Lucia is survived by six sons, Salvador and wife Teena, Cruz and wife Ysabel, Dean and wife Vicki, Toby, Archie and wife Erica, and Steven, all of Hobbs. Four daughters, Gloria Duarte, Bernice Barr and husband Richard, Veronica Torres and husband Bobby and Lucy Duarte, all of Hobbs. Four brothers Refugio Ruiz of Palm Springs, CA, Cruz Ruiz of Blue Bell, PA, Marsial Ruiz and Luis Ruiz both of Hobbs. Two sisters, Hortensia Hernandez and Dora Ruiz both of Hobbs; 36 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister and one great grandson.
