Lucy Emerenciana Sanchez, lovingly known as Mama Lucy, passed away peacefully on June 3rd, 2026, surrounded by her loving daughters and grandchildren. She was born on October 20th, 1948, in Santa Rosa, NM to Casimiro and Concepcion Sisneros. Lucy married Antonio R. Sanchez on October 9th, 1965, in Portales, NM. Together, they have 5 children: Tony J. Sanchez Jr., Stella M. Sanchez, Johnny E. Sanchez, Jessica Sanchez, and Rose E. Sanchez.

Lucy was a loving and devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. Lucy fulfilled her God-given purpose as a faithful servant. She became a teacher for several years in both Texas and New Mexico. She truly loved working with children and was also a tutor. Lucy was also a childcare provider for children and her own grandchildren as well. Taking care of her grandchildren was not only a blessing to her but made a huge impact and imprint on them!

Lucy then, went on to become a caregiver for the elderly with Lin-Mar in Hobbs, NM for over 10 years. She provided quality and excellent care, always going above and beyond for her clients. The love and care she gave never went unnoticed.

Lucy was known for her gentle touch, her caring ways, and her unwitting charm. Her hobbies included: early morning walks with friends, exercise classes at the Hobbs Senior Citizens Center, dancing, cooking, and baking. Her grandchildren truly enjoyed her pancakes, sopaipillas, and birthday cakes! She loved sewing, reading, and going to church. Lucy enjoyed going on special trips with her daughters and spending quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mama Lucy loved funny movies, laughing out loud, and being silly and having good times with her family.

Lucy E. Sanchez was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Antonio R. Sanchez, her sister: Mary Lucero, her brothers: Ernesto Sisneros and Joe Samuel Sisneros, and her sons: Johnny E. Sanchez and Tony J. Sanchez, Jr.

Lucy is survived by her 2 brothers and 3 sisters: Alfredo Sisneros (Martha Sisneros+), Roberto Sisneros, Margarita Sisneros (Oscar Sotelo), Susie Lann (David Lann), and Theresa Sisneros. She is also survived by her 3 daughters: Stella M. Urias (Raul Urias), Jessica Sanchez, and Rose E. Sanchez. Lucy also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.

Viewing services will be held on Wednesday, June 10th 1-6pm at Chapel of Hope 3321 N Dal Paso St, Hobbs, NM 88240.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11th 10 am at Bethel Church 3300 N Fowler St, Hobbs NM 88240. Sepulture will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery 2101 E Stanolind Rd, Hobbs, NM 88240. Reception in Lucy’s honor will follow sepulture at Bethel Church Reception Hall 3300 N Fowler St, Hobbs, NM 88240. Family and Friends are welcome to attend, commune and share loving memories of Lucy.
