Mike Flowers

October 22, 1952 — August 20, 2022

Hobbs

Mike was born October 22,1952 to Barney and Alma (Absher) Flowers in Hobbs, NM.

There was a 15-year age gap between Mike and his three older siblings (Truman, Frank, and Norma) This created an instant and lifelong “favored” status for Mike among his family.

At an early age, Mike developed a love for baseball.  He played on many youth league teams and achieved championships in the process. He could frequently be found checking the scores and trades of his beloved Yankees.  In recent years, he and Debby toured Yankee Stadium while attending a game. Mike furthered his passion for sports by collecting memorabilia.

Mike attended Hobbs High School. He joined Job Corps at an early age.

As a young man, he worked on car lots for his brothers (Jack, Truman, and Frank).  Mike learned well from them. He owned and operated Highland Auto Sales in Hobbs for many years.

Mike worked in the oilfields of the Permian Basin and North Dakota.  He established a successful Hotshot business in the process. When the oilfield slowed, he and Debby began traveling the United States delivering tiny houses.  This venture allowed them to see the country.  They made many friends along the way.

Travel was always part of Mike’s life.  He, Angela, and Jason covered the nation from coast to coast.

Mike and Debby moved to Cotopaxi, Colorado. They loved the “ranch” life there. He quickly traded his hardhat for a Stetson and could be found checking on his cows.

In 2020, Mike and Debby left the foothills of Colorado for the Black Hills of South Dakota. Their new home offered many opportunities and cherished friendships.

Earlier this year, they decided to join the RV life and travel.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Barney, and Alma, three brothers, Truman, Frank, and Morris (infant), son, Robby Young, grandson, JJ Flowers.

Left to cherish Mike’s memory are his wife of the home, Debby, his beloved sister, Norma, four children, Shaun Young of Texas, Angela Flowers of Hobbs, Jason Flowers of Hobbs, Jessica Morrissey of Texas, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mike truly never met a stranger and easily made friends. He was firm in his convictions and very passionate about his beliefs. He was sustained by his unwavering faith in God and love for his savior, Jesus Christ. Mike valued time with his family above all…including the “family” he adopted all along his many travels.
