On January 1, 2026, Neil Kenneth Gohr, 62, of Hobbs went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born in Fairmont, MN, on June 18, 1963, to Kenneth and Neta Gohr. He spent his early life in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and in 1979, the Gohr family moved to Hobbs, where Neil graduated high school in 1981.
In 1984, Neil Gohr joined the Hobbs Fire Department (HFD) as a Firefighter/EMT, where he had a successful career spanning two decades. As a respected professional in his field, he worked under the Federal Emergency Management Agency, training firemen all over the country for emergency hazardous materials situations. In 1993, he competed in the World Police and Fire Games, where he earned a bronze medal in the triathlon. He moved through the ranks and retired in 2005 as a Battalion Chief.
An exceptional and dedicated father, Neil worked tirelessly to provide for two loving daughters, Marissa and Raianna. He coached them in sports and in life, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and modeling what it means to love unconditionally.
Neil married his soulmate, Tracie, in 2006, and they shared nearly twenty years of a wonderful marriage. He gained three more daughters, Melanie, Summer, and Danielle, and over time, their family grew to include thirteen grandchildren who became the center of their world.
Neil’s passion for firefighting led him to earn an associate’s degree in applied science in 2002. After his retirement from HFD, he joined Urenco USA, where he worked as a Facilities Maintenance Manager, Senior Safety and Emergency Response Specialist, and Interim Safety and Emergency Response Manager until 2025.
In his spare time, Neil enjoyed hunting, golfing, boating, fishing, and gardening. Although he loved traveling and went to places as far as Canada, Central America, and Europe, his favorite place to unwind was his family’s lake house in OH Ivie, TX. At the lake he was at his happiest and most relaxed—laughing, letting loose, and enjoying a life well-lived. Many of his loved ones can attest to the beautiful memories made there, the kind that settle deep within the heart.
Neil lived life to the fullest and was well-loved and respected among his community of family and friends. He had a spark that could light up any room and turn it into a celebration. Neil was anchored by his strong faith in God and was grateful for the many blessings He provided.
Neil’s survivors include his wife, Tracie Gohr, of Hobbs; his mother, Neta Gohr, of Midland; daughter Marissa Juárez and her husband, Todd Kirkpatrick, of Albuquerque; daughter Raianna Gohr and her partner, Cory Schroeder, of Phoenix; daughter Melanie Patterson and her partner, Cory Muller, of Clovis; daughter Summer Thomas of Hobbs; daughter Danielle Patterson and her husband Lanny Fulford, of Odessa; siblings Nanci and José Castillo of Madison, AL, Kristine and Rodell Curtis of Minneapolis, and Kevin and Ami Gohr of Midland; nieces and nephews Morgan and Dagon Flowers, Mackenzie Castillo and Annie Sanchez, Mason and Joely Gohr, Kason Curtis, Keaton Curtis, and Madison Castillo; and countless friends and chosen family.
A proud grandpa, Neil leaves behind 13 amazing grandchildren, including Cielo, Kilan, Gabriel, Allyson, Emilie, Hunter, Logan, Harper, Colton, MJ, Charleigh, Kinsley, and Hannah.
Neil was welcomed into heaven by his father, Kenneth Gohr; grandparents, Elmer, Ona Skare, Orville, and Ione Graue; uncle, Ron Gohr; and friends, Charlie Mendoza and Jay Vickers.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cowboy Junction church at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2026. Honorary Pallbearers include Neil’s best friends Neal Henry and Jim Bob Marshall; grandsons Cielo Gonzales Kirkpatrick, Kilán Juárez Kirkpatrick, and Gabriel Corral; and nephews Mason Gohr, Kason Curtis, and Keaton Curtis.
