Paul O’Brian, 78, of Hobbs, NM, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Paul was born on March 23, 1948, in Durant, Oklahoma to James and Ludie O’Brain. He was the youngest of six children.

As a young man, Paul left Oklahoma and made his home in Hobbs, where he built a life centered on God, family, and hard work. He spent most of his career laying carpet, first for Shirley’s Carpet and later for Miller Waldrop. In his later years, Paul managed Rig Power until his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory always, including his wife of 49 years, Janice O’Brian, his three children, daughter Sherry O’Brian of Hobbs, daughter Paula (Virgil) Petree of Lovington, son David (Teisha) O’Brian of Tatum, and six grandchildren: Tara Purcell, Savannah (Jeremiah) Howard, Joshua Cleveland, Dakota Purcell, Haley (Pablo) O’Brian and Paul (Jazmin) O’Brian. His legacy includes 15 great grandchildren: Zachary and Brandon Byrd, Deann, Dean, Deanie, and Dalphin Howard, Jason Cleveland, Adryan, Adalynn, Ailynn, and Ashlynn Martinez, and Sophia, Kenzlee, Paul, and Aria O’Brain. He is further survived by his brother, Fred (Flo) O’Brain of Hobbs. Paul was preceded in death by his siblings Johnny O’Brain, Flo Davis, Tommy O’Brain, and George O’Brain.

Paul had a deep love for the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and rock hunting were among his favorite pastimes, and he found great pleasure in spending time in nature. Paul’s legacy also lives on through the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
