Peggy Sharon Sturgill June 15, 1946- January 7,2023

but those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.   Isaiah 40:31

Peggy Sharon Sturgill, passed away peacefully surrounded by those she loved on the morning of January 7, 2023, in Lubbock, TX.   Sharon was born June 15, 1946, to Griff and Peggy Pittman in Lubbock, TX.  The family lived in Seminole, TX until she was the age of 13.  From there, they moved to Levelland TX.  Sharon graduated from Levelland High School in 1962 and continued her studies at South Plains Junior College, where she met her future husband James A. Sturgill.  She attended the University of Texas in Austin until 1968.  Jim and Sharon were married on June 15, 1968 and were married for 46 years until Jim’s passing in April of 2014.

In 1979, they moved to Hobbs where Sharon began working for Kinder Care until 1982.  She spent the rest of her time working for the State of New Mexico at the Department of Labor and at Income Support Division, where she held several positions.  In 2006 she retired from the State of New Mexico as the County Supervisor of the Income Support Division.  Sharon was on the Lea County Perinatal Board beginning in 1988 and served for many years.  At the age of 71, Sharon decided to go back to school to become a Nutritional Health Coach.  She had a vision to open a Functional Health Clinic in Hobbs.  In 2019, that dream became a reality and Desert Functional Medicine opened its doors where she worked with her second family until her passing.  Sharon was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Hobbs and an associate member of the First United Methodist Church of Lovington.  Anyone that knew Sharon, knew that she was a “Prayer Warrior”.  She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Grandma Fish.  Many others came to know her as Grandma Fish as well.  Sharon had many close friends that she loved as family.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Griff and Peggy Pittman, her husband James A. Sturgill and her parents-in-law, Leonard and Mary Sturgill.  Sharon is survived by her son, Ben and wife Christi Sturgill of Hobbs; daughter, Jeannie and husband Justin Alexander of Lovington; sister, Sharla and her husband Mitchell Agnew of Allen, Texas, sister-in-law, Kim and her husband Francis Coulter of Dallas, Texas, and brother in-law Gene and wife Wreatha Sturgill of Tome, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica, and Alyssa Sturgill of Hobbs; Michael and wife Olivia Alexander, Ashten, Craig and Audrey Alexander of Lovington; and one great grandchild Clayton.
