Obituary

Raul Quiroga Cano, 82, of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Odessa, Texas on July 25, 2026. Born on January 20, 1944, in Durango, Mexico, Raul grew up with a deep love for farming. He spent his early teenage years of his life in Durango and Chihuahua. There he met his first wife and mother of his children, Rita Carrera Cano. After living in different parts of Chihuahua for some years, he moved his family to Lovington, New Mexico and finally settling down in the city of Hobbs. He spent many years working for Ferguson Construction Company where he met many lifelong friends along the way until his early retirement from the Oil & Gas industry.

Years after the passing of his wife Rita, Raul loved to travel back and forth to his favorite hometown of Villa Ahumada where he would spend weeks down there relaxing and visiting family. He ended up marrying Maria del Refugio and they spent many years with each other giving themselves great companionship up until his death. He is survived by his wife, Maria del Refugio Nevarez; 2 sisters, Abigail Quiroga (and Oscar) of Benito Juarez, Chih., Mexico, Griselda Quiroga of Seguin, Texas; 4 children, Olivia (and Jose RIP) Meraz of Villa Ahumada, Chihuahua; Maria Guadalupe Guillen (and Florentino) of Hobbs; Elda Davenny (and Nathan) of Hobbs; and Ignacio Raul Quiroga (and Angelica) of Hobbs; and his 12 cherished grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren (Lily and Lucas). He was preceded in death by his parents Eulalio & Reynalda Quiroga, a newborn daughter, his late wife Rita Quiroga, all his brothers, and many close friends and family.

Raul had an enormous heart and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was well known for being kind, his finger licking “asado,” and his funny life stories that had everyone laughing for hours. He also enjoyed playing card games with his close friends.
