Richard Arlen Lentz, 87, of Hobbs, NM passed away December 23, 2025, peacefully with family by his side. Richard was born to Ernest Lentz Sr. and Dorothy Murphy in San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Peggy Jo (Car), his parents Ernest and Dorothy Lentz, and his brothers Ernest Lentz Jr. and William Lentz. He is survived by his daughter, Lela Green; grandchildren, Brandon (Meghan) Waters, and Aimee Murray; great-grandchildren, Cooper Grenko, Tryston Jones, Logan Jones, Nolan Waters, Andy Jo Murray, and Harper Matthews; and great-great-grandchild Baylor Grenko; siblings, Jack Lentz and Patsy Bailey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard graduated San Antonio schools and then enlisted in the Navy. According to Richard, he spent 4 years peeling potatoes and washing laundry on the USS Wasp.
Richard began his oilfield career in the early 70’s as a truck driver for Western Oil. He retired for the first time from Western Oil, now known as Plains, in 2003, for approximately 3 weeks before he began his career with Dorado Transportation. Richard loved to work and was blessed to work until the Lord called him home.
Richard loved raising his horses, tending to his cows, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching football and baseball. He was a number one fan of whatever team his grand kids were on, but if they weren’t playing, he would have to settle for the Cowboys or the Rangers.
Known as unforgivably caring and only a little bit stubborn, Richard was humble, a protector, and he was as tough as the rock of Gibraltar (his words not ours).
Services will be held Wednesday, January 7th at Cowboy Junction Church at 10 am, with graveside to follow at Brownfield (Masonic) Cemetery in Brownfield, TX, at 1:30 CST.
