Richard Ragsdale

October 8, 1936 — October 20, 2020

Hobbs

Richard F. Ragsdale 84 passed away October 20th in Hobbs. He was an only child born to Alfred F Ragsdale and Marian Broach in Wichita Falls, Texas.  He grew up in Burkburnett, Texas where he went to school and excelled in sports.

That’s when he met the love of his life, Nina Garviene Warren. They were married at a very early age and started raising a family with one daughter, Marian and two boys, Ricky and Monty.

Family was very important to Richard, He instilled in us a love for the great outdoors. We had many memorable vacations to Colorado during the summer and hunting trips here in New Mexico.

We would spend a couple of weeks in the mountains, fishing for trout, hiking and sightseeing, just being together was the best.

He started working for Gulf Oil in Crane, Texas and later went to work for Mapco for 31 years.

He grew up in the era of the greatest generation during WW II. That’s probably what influenced his strong sense of patriotism which was passed down to his kids and grandkids.

He was a very artistic man. He taught himself how to carve wood and was very good at it.  He loved woodwork and built forts, trucks, animals and doll houses for his grand kids.  He built many lamps from rock, cholla, and driftwood that he found while out rock hunting. He was an avid arrowhead hunter and enjoyed going out to the Sand Hills with his family for the day.

He was a loyal Dallas Cowboy fan and had lots of ups and down with the team, but he always stuck with them because they were America’s team and spent quite a bit of time yelling at the players which would even scare the dog.

Richard will be dearly missed by all his family and friends, but he will never be forgotten.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred F. Ragsdale and Marian Broach.

He is survived by his wife, Nina Garviene Ragsdale and three children. Ricky Ragsdale of Odessa, Texas, Marian and David Wright of Hobbs, NM and Monty and Dena Ragsdale of Hobbs, NM.  He has seven grandchildren, Erica and Gabriel Galindo, Josh and Rachel Kenney, Jenny and Joe McClure, Dustin Wright, David and Ashley Wright, Casey and Mindi Ragsdale and Caleb and Hali Ragsdale.  He also has 14 great-grandchildren.

Richard Ragsdale of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away on Oct 20, 2020. His loved ones are composing his obituary, which you will be able to read here.
