Sherry Joe Sherrill Norman, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 8, 2026, just as she wished.
Sherry Joe was born on June 28, 1944, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Joe and Juanita Sherrill. She was the oldest of three sisters and spent much of her life in the community she loved.
For more than 30 years, Sherry Joe faithfully served the people of Hobbs as a funeral home director at Griffin Funeral Home and Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Through her work, she comforted countless families during some of their most difficult moments, offering compassion, care, and dignity.
On April 12, 1963, Sherry Joe married Joe Dan Norman, and together they had two children. Their beloved daughter, Sherrill Ann, passed away at the age of 13 after battling leukemia. Sherry Joe carried the grief of losing her daughter throughout the rest of her life. Those who knew and loved her find comfort in knowing that her heart is now healed and that she is reunited with her precious child.
A woman of deep faith, Sherry Joe loved the Lord and found joy in spending time with her family and friends. She was also a huge supporter and devoted fan of the Hobbs Eagles basketball team. She held season tickets for many years and made several trips to Albuquerque to watch the Eagles compete in the state basketball tournament.
She is survived by her son, Joe Dan Norman Jr. (Jody); her daughter-in-law, Jennifer; her younger sister, Susie McCracken; and her two grandchildren, Sydney Norman of Lubbock, Texas, and Dylan Norman of Hobbs, New Mexico. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life and brought her great pride and happiness.
Sherry Joe’s life was marked by service, faith, and love for her family and community. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
