Shirley Ruth Smith 91, passed away peacefully on September 8th, 2026. Born July 31, 1935, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Dennis and Ruth Mauldin and had one brother Ray Mauldin. She married Kenneth Lee Smith, and they settled in Hobbs in 1957.

Shirley taught school at Houston Junior High until her retirement. She enjoyed playing bridge, singing in the church Jubilee choir and attending First Baptist Church. Her most treasured memories were spending time with her family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Dennis and Ruth Mauldin, her brother Ray Mauldin and son Kevin Ray Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Kena Kay Cooper, grandson Collin Cooper, great granddaughter Kipralee Cooper of Hobbs, New Mexico and sister-in-law Pat Mauldin of Conroe, Texas and many nieces and nephews who she cherished dearly.
