Theodore Mcvay

A memorial service for Theodore Worsley McVay, 56, of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be held Saturday, April 4, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hobbs, with Rev. Roland McGregor and Rev. Mary Jane Van Dussen officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Mr. McVay passed away on April 1, 2009, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born June 20, 1952, in Hobbs, to James Coleman and Sarah Jane McVay. Ted married Elaine Dallas on June 14, 1980, in Hobbs.

Survivors include his wife Elaine; his brothers, James McVay, Michael McVay and wife Mary; his sons, Christopher and fiancee Whitney McCauley, and Ryan; his daughters, Alexandra and Cameron; his nephews, Coleman McVay, Michael Ross McVay and fiancee Casey Jones and Blake McVay; his nieces, Molly Githens and husband Tommy and Hilary McVay; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

Ted graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in finance. After college, Ted returned to his hometown of Hobbs and joined his father, James, at McVay Drilling. He began working as a roughneck on drilling rigs, but eventually rose to become President of the company. However, his experiences as a roughneck always remained with him, and he was dedicated to the safety, health and well-being of his employees. Ted worked at McVay drilling alongside his brother Michael and eventually his son Christopher and nephew Michael Ross. Under their watch, McVay Drilling continued to be one of the most well-respected businesses in the oil and gas industry.

Hoping to give back to the community that gave him so much, Ted worked and volunteered for several organizations to help promote the local economy and community he loved.

Ted was a passionate fisherman and hunter, and exuded the necessary qualities to be successful at them: patience, humility and respect. Ted said that he loved fishing and hunting not for the thrill of the catch, but for the quietness it restored to his soul and the opportunity it provided to bond with his close friends and family.

Above all else, Ted McVay loved his four children, and he lived his life not for himself, but for them. His children were his greatest source of pride and his wife, Elaine, always remained the love of his life.

Ted McVay was a blessing to all who knew him.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church in Hobbs, the Relay for Life Team for the First United Methodist Church, or PDAP.
