Timothy Alan Cox was born on June 22, 1952, to Spud and Preb Cox in Dublin, Texas. Preb said she went into labor in Hobbs but needed her mother-in-law who lived in Dublin to take care of the other our siblings so off they went. Spud would ask her in every town if they should stop and she would say, “Drive on”. Hence, Tim was born in Dublin. He passed away on January 13, 2025.
The Cox family moved to Hobbs in May of 1952. Tim was born in June. As a young boy, he played Little League Baseball. He went all through school in Hobbs and graduated from Hobbs High School in 1970. While in high school, he was an active member of the FFA, serving in several capacities. In his young years, he worked for Safeway and made many friends there that he kept in touch with over the years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1972 to 1974. Tim believed in God, country, family and friends. He was a member of Christian Center Church where he served as head usher. Cooking Men’s Breakfast there was a favorite of his.
Tim was a hard worker, and he loved being around people. He never met a stranger. After he served his country, he came back to Hobbs and worked at Hobbs Boot Shop. He soon met Jan Smith, and they were married August 16, 1975. To this union was born daughters Heather and Haley. After the girls were born, he proudly graduated from College of the Southwest in 1981.
Tim had different jobs in the oilfield but the one he was best at was being a salesman. He made friends wherever he went and enjoyed doing things for people. He checked on widows, visited the sick, delivered pumpkins every fall and helped in any way where he saw a need. Tim had a servant’s heart. He was also an avid golfer, and enjoyed working in their yard, which was always beautiful.
One of Tim’s favorite pastimes was reminiscing about the old days. He had cherished memories of his parents and siblings. He talked of a family truck, patch garden vegetables, and an abundance of watermelons and cantaloupes that were shared with neighbors and friends. Moving lawns with his dad and brothers. Playing with the neighborhood kids and the special relationship with the next-door neighbors, the Mayfield’s. Gunsmoke on Saturday night with the family was a favorite. Payday night of hamburgers and a candy bar for dessert ranked right up there. Trips to visit his grandparents I Brownfield and Aunt Punk’s house in Lubbock and always the Cox family reunion at Brownwood Lake. There were fun times with the cousins on both sides of the family. Tim also enjoyed trips to Las Cruces to visit friends. These favorites of time were just to name a few. Tim’s health failed him way too soon and he wasn’t able to be as active as he had been. A special thanks to his caretakers at Good Life.
Surviving Tim is his wife Jan, daughters Heather Bean (Ty), Haley Kinney (Jotty), five grandsons, Jackson Kinney (Britain), Brady Bean, Sam Kinney, Hudson Bean and Charlie Kinney all of Hobbs.
Siblings, Wallace Cox (Sandy), Hollis Cox (Linda), Bobby Cox (Vickie), Trisha Greebon (Dalton), all of Hobbs. Sherry Johnson (Randy) of Abilene, Texas. Many beloved nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
