Wanda “Sue” Pate passed away, Saturday, September 24, 2022, surrounded by family in Norman, OK after a short illness. She was 92 years old. Sue was born in Bixby, OK to Vonna and May Butler. Sue and her family moved to Monument, NM in 1944. She graduated from Monument High School in 1947. In 1949, She met and married the love of her life, Robert ‘Bob’ Pate. They established their home in Monument with their two children, Lorna and Layne, and operated the Monument School buses for years. Sue eventually moved to Hobbs where she worked for the Hobbs Public Library until she retired in 2004. She was an active member in the Methodist Church. Sue loved reading and visiting with her friends and family. She enjoyed working puzzles, crosswords, and playing train. She was also an avid sports fan and was a Hobbs basketball season ticket holder for many decades.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her daughter and son-in-law, Lorna Pate May and Joe May; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Arthur Nave; and brother, Jack Butler.
She is survived by her son, Layne Pate and wife Deborah of Norman, OK; brother, Wright Butler and wife Jessie of Alamogordo, NM; Grandson, Jeffery May and wife Jen of Arlington, TX; Granddaughter, Jennifer May and fiancée Joey of Arlington, TX; Grandson, Lance Pate and wife Heather of West Des Moines, IA; Grandson Zachary Pate and wife Sandra of Norman, OK; Great Grand Children Alex May, Madison Lamb, Logan Pate, Jackson Pate, Austin Pate and Abigail Pate.
