Wanda Young

Wanda Joy Young (Darnell) 85, of Hobbs, passed away March 20, 2024, at UMC Hospital in Lubbock, TX.

Wanda was born January 4, 1939, to Jess & Elsie Darnell in Waldron, Arkansas.

She was one of 7 children born to the Darnell’s. Her siblings included J.C. Darnell, J.B. Darnell, Cleo Lasiter, infant sister Lillie Maxine Darnell, Bonnie Essman, and Glen Darnell.

Wanda is survived by her son Benny Young and wife Cyndi of Hobbs, NM. Daughter Sherrill Young of Hobbs, NM. Grandsons Caleb Young of Bedford, TX and Josh Young of Hobbs, NM., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wanda married Charles Young June 8, 1960, at Northside Baptist Church in Hobbs, NM.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, son Jeff, Siblings J.C. Darnell, J.B, Darnell, Cleo Lasiter, Lillie Darnell, Bonnie Essman, and Glen Darnell.

Wanda was a lifetime care giver for two physically challenged children. She was also a teacher’s aide at the Child Development Center for 22 years.

She was an active member of Crosswinds Community Church (formerly Northside Baptist Church) for 62 years.

Wanda enjoyed her niece, Irene Drake, coming over every morning to drink coffee, visit and help with care giving.

Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope. Visitation will be March 27, 2024, at Chapel of Hope from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. A celebration of Wanda’s life will be at 2:00 PM March 28^th at Crosswinds Community Church. The burial will be at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
