Weldon Sims

Weldon Neil Sims was born in South Bend, TX on June 30, 1933. He passed into the eternal arms of Jesus after a prayer with his wife, Doranne of 60 years on July 9, 2018 at his home in Hobbs.

Weldon graduated from Odessa High School in 1951. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He was extremely proud to serve as a U.S. Marine Corporal. After he was discharged, he attended Odessa Jr. College for 2 years. He was an avid golfer. Weldon moved to Hobbs in 1957 to work for B. S. & B Tank Co. He met Doranne Brown that same year at the Brown's North 40 Miniature Golf Course on Bender Blvd. They married on May 17, 1958 at the bride's parents' home on St. Anne Pl.
Weldon spent much of his career with Phillips Petroleum until he retired and was involved for the next few years in several vocations, including owning and operating North 40 Restaurant.

Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, W. A. "Bud" and Grace Sims of Andrews, his older sister Oneta Rudd, of Hereford, and his younger brother, Ronnie Sims, of Ft. Worth. Weldon leaves behind his wife, Doranne, a son, Doug Sims/Ann of Lubbock, a daughter, Leigh Ann Nelson/Erick of Midland. He also leaves behind his grandson, Joseph Sims, of Lubbock, his granddaughter, Emily Sims Howard/Garrison, of Seminole, and granddaughters, Kelly Nelson and Allison Nelson of Midland. "He also leaves behind some cousins, nieces and nephews."

The family would like to thank their beloved Taylor St. Church family, who showed God's love in abundance throughout Weldon's life. We would also like to thank Elite Home Health and Kindred Hospice for their care of Weldon during his fight with Parkinson's. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Parkinson's.org.
