Marilynn (Stipp) Justice

April 7, 1938 ~ March 30, 2022 (age 83)

Marilynn Stipp Justice passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, surrounded by family in Hobbs, New Mexico.  She was born on April 7, 1938, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, to Robert James (RJ) and Lelia (Fern) Stipp.

She attended K-12 school in New Mexico and Indiana, where the family lived with her maternal grandparents while her father served in the United States Navy.

She received a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Texas Tech University and moved back to Indiana to work for Stokely Van Kamp and Eli Lily Pharmaceuticals.  She met John Justice of Toccoa, Georgia, while in Indiana, and they married September 2, 1967.  They moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, the following year to join RJ Stipp at Caprock Communications. They were blessed by two children, James Andrew Justice and John Mark Justice.

Marilynn made a wonderful home in Hobbs for her family and friends, all while keeping books for the multiple family businesses.  She was instrumental in encouraging her boys’ educational endeavors and was very proud of both of them as sons and entrepreneurs.

Marilynn enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee and her delicious pound cake, sewing, quilting, calligraphy, reading, canning, and gardening.  She was a P.E.O. Golden Girl, having been a member of the organization supporting women’s education for more than 50 years.  The organization is based on the virtues of Faith, Love, Purity, Justice and Truth.  Marilynn was the epitome of a P.E.O. member.  She was especially proud of the local scholarship established in memory of her dear friend, Beth Gann.

Marilynn is survived by her children James Andrew Justice of Payson, Arizona, John Mark Justice and wife Angela of Hobbs, and Joanie Bonfield Dinneen (the daughter Marilynn never had) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Dylan Justice of Tempe, Arizona, Colton Justice of Payson, Arizona, and Adley and Cole Justice of Hobbs; and her sister Nancy Pierce of Lewisville, Texas.

Marilynn was preceded in death by her husband John Justice, her parents Robert James and Lelia Stipp, and her grandson Vinn Justice.

In lieu of flowers, Marilynn and the family would appreciate donations be made to P.E.O. Chapter Q (memo: Beth Gann Scholarship), c/o Caryn Thurman, 2013 N Vega Ct, Hobbs, NM 88240.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the kind and loving staff of Kindred Hospice and several nurse friends during the last months of Marilynn’s blessed life. .
