Martie M. (Cooper) Bateman

Martie Murlene (Cooper) Bateman was born August 17, 1943, to Martin and Murrell Cooper in Hobbs, New Mexico.  She grew up in Hobbs alongside her two sisters, Evelyn and Carolyn.  

Martie met the love of her life, Clifton Bateman, and soon was married.  Together they raised two sons, Mark and Scott.

Martie worked for Levi Strauss for many years, starting in Hobbs as a seamstress.  She would later move to Albuquerque, serving as a supervisor.  Martie capped her career with Levi Strauss by becoming a plant manager in El Paso, Texas.  Martie was one of the first women to earn the plant manager job in manufacturing for Levi Strauss.

Since moving back to Hobbs, Martie has been a member of the Bel Aire Baptist Church.

Martie's sense of humor holds legendary status among her family with just the memory of several of her notable moments, incidents, pranks, and outbursts bringing cackling laughter and an appreciative smile.

Martie was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Murrell, her husband Clifton, her sisters Evelyn and Carolyn, her brothers-in-law, and her daughter-in-law Jean.

Martie is survived by her eldest son Mark, her youngest son Scott, her daughter-in-law Melynda, grandson Justin, grand-daughters Meagan and Lexi, her great-grandson, Jesse Ray, and a large extended set of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
